Dr Large is a stakes winning and graded stakes performing son of sire of sires, A.P. Indy.
Out of a multiple stakes producing daughter of Mr. Prospector, he is bred on an identical cross to A.P. Indy’s leading sire sons Pulpit, Malibu Moon, Mineshaft, Flatter and Congrats. Tracing to La Troienne in direct female line, he is also from the immediate family of Private Account, Woodman, Not For Love and Mutakddim.

Dr Large has “shot out of the gate” as a stallion with his very first runner (Spooled) winning back to back Stakes races as a 2yr old in 2014′ and has the highest AEI of any son of AP Indy at stud “3.61”.

A.P. Indy has enjoyed tremendous success with mares by Mr. Prospector, the broodmare sire of Dr Large. There are at least 26 stallions whose dams are by Mr. Prospector, and who have sired stakes winners out of Mr. Prospector line mares, among them Malibu Moon (who has a Champion Two-Year-Old bred on the cross), Pulpit, Mineshaft, Flatter, and Congrats.

Mr. Prospector via Fappiano is in the male line of two Pulpit graded stakes winners, and his son Quiet American is broodmare sire of A.P. Indy’s Champion, Bernardini.

Other sources of Fappiano that should work well are Rubiano, Roy, Pentelicus, Cahill Road and Unbridled (sire of Unbridled’s Song). Other branches of Mr. Prospector to appear in the broodmare sire line of A.P. Indy stakes winners, and which should work well here, include Seeking the Gold (with Mutakddim and Petionville, being attractive), Machiavellian (sire of Street Cry), Afleet, Silver Ghost, Woodman (close relative to the dam of Dr Large), Kingmambo ,Distinctive Pro, Conquistador Cielo, Carson City, Forty Niner, Smart Strike. Not For Love is another close relative to the dam of Dr Large. Mares bred on a Mr. Prospector/Northern Dancer cross, and mares by stallions bred on that cross should be particulary appealing.

We can also note that A.P. Indy has also sired five stakes winners, two of them Grade 1 out of mares from the male line of Alydar, a genetic relative to Mr. Prospector, and therefore a strain which should work really well here.

A.P. Indy has also done extremely well over mares descending from the other great sire line of the current era, that of Northern Dancer. Among branches of Northern Dancer that have enjoyed success with A.P. Indy line stallions are Storm Bird, through Summer Squall (half-brother to A.P. Indy, and broodmare sire of a Champion by a son of A.P. Indy) and Storm Cat (particularly good under Pulpit, a horse bred on the same cross as Dr Large); Deputy Minister; Danzig; Dixieland Band; Nijinsky II; Nureyev; El Gran Senor; and Sadler’s Wells (with El Prado appearing particularly attractive). A.P. Indy has also sired a graded stakes winner out of a mare by Clever Trick, who is by Northern Dancer’s fellow Nearctic son, Icecapade.

Pulpit, Malibu Moon and Mineshaft have all enjoyed success with mares descending from Roberto, including through Kris S., Red Ransom, and Dynaformer. Roberto is a Hail to Reason line horse, and A.P. Indy has also sired grade one winners out of mares by Turn-to/Hail to Reason descendants Cox’s Ridge and Cure the Blues.

Mineshaft has a graded stakes winner out of a mare by Private Account (dam a sister to the third dam of Dr Large), and introducing this strain appeals (sources including Private Terms, Personal Flag, Secret Hello, Unaccounted For and Afternoon Deelites).

Other strains worth considering here include Relaunch (including through Bertando, Officer, and Honour and Glory), Pleasant Colony and his son Pleasant Tap, and Broad Brush.
